LONDON, England – Music legend Mark Knopfler’s guitar collection auction achieved a remarkable £8,840,160 (US$11,227,003 / €10,342,987), with 100% of the lots sold. The live auction, held in London, set a new auction record for Knopfler’s 1959 Vintage Gibson Les Paul Standard, which fetched an impressive £693,000.

Music enthusiasts, fans, and collectors from 61 countries registered to bid, resulting in intense competition across the 122 lots offered. The auction lasted over six hours, reflecting the global interest in Knopfler’s iconic collection.

In a generous gesture, Knopfler has pledged to donate 25% of the total hammer price equally to three charities he has long supported: the British Red Cross, Tusk, and Brave Hearts of the North East. Additionally, 100% of the proceeds from the final lot will benefit the Teenage Cancer Trust. Christie’s, the auction house, is also contributing an additional £50,000 to each of the four charities.

The auction’s success highlights the enduring legacy of Mark Knopfler and his unwavering support for charitable causes.
