The Department of Art and Art History at UC Davis College of Letters and Science hosts public lectures in Art Studio during the winter quarter.

Cecilia Alemani: The California Studio

Cecilia Alemani is the artistic director of the 2022 Venice Biennial. She has been the Donald R. Mullen Jr. Director and Chief Curator of High Line Art, New York City’s public art program, since 2011. Alemani has gained competence in commissioning and delivering ambitious artworks for public and unique settings during the last ten years. Alemani is the highlight artist-in-residence in The California Studio: Manetti Shrem Artist Residencies for the winter quarter. The Manetti Shrem Museum is a cosponsor.

Rina Banerjee: Art Studio Visiting Artist Lecture Series

Rina Banerjee is a visual artist whose work is inspired by her transnational and personal immigrant history. Her paintings and sculptures examine ethnicity, race, migration, and American Diasporic histories using a variety of materials and historical references. Banerjee’s first solo exhibition in North America, Rina Banerjee: Make Me a Summary of the World, premiered in 2018 at the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts. The UC Davis College of Letters and Science provided funding. The Manetti Shrem Museum is a cosponsor.

About Art Studio at UC Davis

UC Davis’ Art Studio encourages students to build curiosity and the bravery to face the unexpected via art. The Art Studio Visiting Artist Lecture Series, the Betty Jean and Wayne Thiebaud Lecture Series, The California Studio: Manetti Shrem Artist Residencies, professional practice seminars, student exhibitions, competitions, and internships are all available to undergraduate and graduate students. The department supports 16 fully financed MFA students and attracts students from around the world.
