Sections / Intersections at Guggenheim Bilbao

September 8, 2022–January 22, 2023

The Guggenheim Museum Bilbao will mark its 25th anniversary in 2022 with a comprehensive exhibition of pieces from the permanent collection that will take place in all of the museum’s halls. In order to rediscover works that have historically defined both the interior and exterior of the Museum, the exhibition is designed as a vast triptych, built through three thematic approaches that are put in interaction with one another. Thus, each floor of the structure gives a section of the collection along the three main axes of Material Life, Unfolding Narratives, and Marking History in Sections/Intersections. This exhibition provides a panoramic view of the wealth of the cultural and artistic holdings the Museum has amassed up until the current day for the first time. Also in celebration of the Museum’s 25th Anniversary is an exceptional installation by Yayoi Kusama on view at the Film and Video Gallery.

Each of the exhibition themes is built around a central idea that is both independent of and in conversation with the others. This encourages fresh interpretations of the collection’s artworks by suggesting different sections and intersections between locations, time periods, and media. The inclusion of rarely seen artwork, site-specific pieces, and new additions to the Guggenheim Museum Bilbao Collection are just a few noteworthy features of this exhibition.
