Mattress Factory’s International Open Call Invites Artists to Create Solo Exhibitions in Pittsburgh

Submissions Open until February 8, 2024, for Residencies and Exhibitions in 2025 and 2026

Mattress Factory Announces 2024 International Open Call for Artists-in-Residence

Pittsburgh’s Mattress Factory, a renowned contemporary art museum, has launched its 2024 International Open Call, inviting artists from around the world to submit proposals for solo exhibitions in 2025 and 2026. The museum’s unique “By Artists, For Artists” approach ensures that artist voices are central to the selection process, with a distinguished panel of Mattress Factory alumni artists serving as jurors.

The Artist Review Panel, comprising Jon Rubin, Harrison Kinnane Smith, and Julie Schenkelberg, will evaluate submissions and select artists for residencies and solo exhibitions at the museum. Their familiarity with Mattress Factory’s resources, community, and exhibition program promises a discerning and innovative selection process.

During their residencies, artists will have the freedom to explore their creative vision and produce new works in Pittsburgh’s vibrant Northside neighborhood. Mattress Factory provides comprehensive support, including an artist honorarium, production budget, transportation, accommodation, per diem during installation, and fabrication assistance.

Eligibility and Submissions:

The International Open Call is open to artists of any medium and nationality. Submissions must include a two-page CV, a short bio (200 words), an artist statement (200 words), and up to 10 media files for consideration. Project proposals are not accepted.

The deadline for submissions is February 8, 2024, at 11:59 PM EST. Artists are encouraged to submit their portfolios via the Mattress Factory website.
