American Framing at Wrightwood 659

May 6–July 30, 2022

The wood-frame house is actually extremely unique and is the most well-known structure in America.

The installation created in the atrium of Wrightwood 659 for American Framing elevates the commonplace and expresses the underlying aesthetic resonance and limitless potential of wood framing. In order to create a sense of discovery and excitement through the ordinary, the installation shows and distorts the shape of the typical American home. The building is a modified version of a larger installation that was built outside the American Pavilion at the Venice Architecture Biennale in 2021.

In collaboration with the University of Illinois at Chicago, Alphawood Exhibitions presents American Framing at Wrightwood 659. (UIC). American Framing was initially made possible by the U.S. Department of State’s Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs (ECA) and the University of Illinois at Chicago for display at the country’s pavilion at the 17th International Venice Architecture Biennale.
