Kunsthall Trondheim are now searching for a visionary and ambitious leader that has the ability to create great artistic experiences for a broad audience. Kunsthall Trondheim is currently going through an exciting and vibrant phase. The managing director needs to have profound artistic knowledge, a broad network, and a comprehensive understanding of contemporary art. New leader needs to possess great communication skills and be a dedicated professional networker. The managing director is both the artistic and administrative head of the Kunsthall, and the position requires an understanding and knowledge in both financial and organizational areas, as well as working with both governmental and private benefactors. The Kunsthall’s objective is to be a clear voice in the public debate by engaging the broader public on important topics.
Key responsibilities
–Develop the Kunsthall’s artistic profile, audience, and publications
–Lead and further develop the organization in accordance with strategies, plans, and objectives
–Participate in the preparation of strategies and profile in cooperation with the board, owners, and the staff
–Fill the position as both the artistic and administrative head of the Kunsthall
–Be responsible for the planning of content in cooperation with the staff and in accordance with the mandate of reaching a broad audience locally, regionally, and nationally, with an international impact
–Build networks and develop collaborative projects with other art professional actors, art institutions, governments, private actors and NTNU
–Ensure good financial management with planning and a clear focus on results relative to activity and available resources
–Increase revenue through public funding, contributions from private benefactors and various organizations, and the public
–Put forward a program with a wide variety and great artistic quality and have the overall responsibility of exhibitions and projects
Qualifications
–Comprehensive understanding of contemporary art and a broad view of art
–Relevant management experience
–A good overview of the Norwegian and international contemporary art scene
–Preferably international experience
–Relevant work experience from the contemporary art scene—through publications and/or curatorial activities
–University education within art, art history, or similar fields
Personal traits
–Visionary, strategic, and ambitious—be the spokesperson of the Kunsthall
–Unifying and inclusive with the ability to lead and develop people
–Network-oriented with a broad art professional network
–Enthusiastic, energetic, and active
–Goal-oriented, independent, and a well-structured work style
Language: Excellent written and oral skills both in English and Norwegian/Scandinavian
Domicile: Trondheim, Norway
Tenure: This position has a 6-year tenure
