Queens Museum announces open calls for In Situ Artist Fellowship and QM-Jerome Foundation Fellowship

Application deadline, QM-Jerome Foundation Fellowship for Emerging Artists: July 31, 11:59pm

Application deadline, In Situ Artist Fellowship: August 14, 11:59pm

Three artists will be selected for the Queens Museum’s (QM) In Situ Artist Fellowship, a two-year fellowship (October 2022–September 2024), which will provide them with rent-free studio space as well as a yearly salary of $45,000 USD with full benefits. With a focus on co-creation, relationship building, research, and bold experimentation, artists will develop their practices in partnership with particular facets of the Museum’s work and Queens communities. Also planned for spring 2024 is a solo show by each artist.

The La Jornada and Queens Museum Cultural Food Pantry, the Queens Teens Institute For Art & Social Justice, the QM’s Archives & Collection, and the QM Children’s Museum are just a few of the activities and study areas that are open to eligible artists.

A solid body of creative work and a commitment to social and public practice are requirements for eligibility as an artist. For the full two years of their fellowships, In Situ Artist Fellows are required to live in New York City and commit to working at the Museum at least three days per week.

Application deadline: August 14, 2022, 11:59pm EST

Information Session: Jun 28, 2022, 6-7:30pm EST via Zoom

Two visual artists will receive 20,000 USD each from the QM-Jerome Foundation Fellowship for Emerging Artists, as well as individual studio space, professional development consultations, and close mentorship from QM staff members working on the artists’ projects. From October 2022 through September 2023, fellows will have access to their own studios. The culmination of these one-year scholarships will be solo project shows at QM in the fall of 2023.

Emerging visual artists residing in New York City’s five boroughs are eligible to apply for the QM-Jerome Foundation Fellowship. An emerging artist, according to QM, is one who has just begun their public career. The only solo shows that eligible artists have had at private galleries or public institutions are after they have finished their education. Major grant money for the work of the artists will not yet exist.
