Royal Academy Architecture Awards Week at the Royal Academy of Arts, London

Royal Academy Architecture Awards Week takes place between September 12–16, 2022.

Join the Royal Academy of Arts to celebrate the Royal Academy Architecture Prize and the Royal Academy Dorfman Award during Royal Academy Architecture Awards Week, September 12–16, 2022.

An international festival of architecture is held at the Royal Academy of Arts in London during Royal Academy Architecture Awards Week. The four Royal Academy Dorfman Award finalists will travel to London for a weeklong public program that will examine the future of architecture. The program will feature a series of events including the Royal Academy Architecture Award Jury and eminent architects and designers.

The winner of the 2022 Royal Academy Dorfman Award will be revealed at a ceremony that marks the official investiture of Renée Gailhoustet as a Royal Academy Architecture Prize-winner, in recognition of her career-long contribution to generous public architecture, after a week of public events and private jury meetings.

Radical Generosity: Renée Gailhoustet and social housing
Benjamin West Lecture Theatre
Tuesday, September 13, 6:30–8pm

At this festive event, explore the inspiring work of this year’s Royal Academy Architecture Prize winner. The evening’s events include a talk by Farshid Moussavi RA, who will introduce Renée Gailhoustet’s work to the general audience, and a panel discussion with Peter Barber RA, Kate Macintosh, and Irénée Scalbert, who will examine its relevance for contemporary city planning and housing design.

Rethinking Spaces: a workshop with the RA Dorfman Award finalists
Clore Learning Centre
Wednesday, September 14, 2–4:30pm

A chance for both professionals and non – professionals to interact with the Royal Academy Dorfman Award finalists and gain a deeper understanding of how architects approach their work and respond to a brief. This will be a chance to collaborate directly with the finalists to suggest imaginative modifications to Royal Academy buildings and gain first-hand knowledge of their various methods, attitudes to cooperation, and problem-solving techniques while working in a small group.

Thursday, September 15, 6–8pm

The four candidates for the 2022 Royal Academy Dorfman Award, Apparata (UK), dot architects (Japan), Semillas (Peru), and Wallmakers (India), will showcase their various practices and discuss their respective approaches to construction during this special event. Following their speeches, a panel discussion with 2022 jury members Peter St. John and Cornelia Parker RA will be place before the £10,000 award winner is announced. Members of Renée Gailhoustet’s family will also receive Renée Gailhoustet’s prize medal, which she won for winning the Royal Academy Architecture Prize.
