October 21–22, 2022
Space can be governed by architecture. It can make it possible to use it as a resource, construct surfaces that may be used, and use it to produce items using raw materials that are taken from the earth’s surface. However, these goods have a specific expiration date. The great majority are replaced by new volumes made from recently mined and processed raw materials whenever they are no longer thought to be useful. More and more formerly unoccupied space is being taken up and utilized by new construction.
Such actions have long-standing negative effects that are shown in increased property prices, a shortage of raw materials, abandoned metropolitan areas, and expanding landfills for construction trash. Today, we are aware that the environmental and climate catastrophe is mostly a result of the construction industry. It is also obvious that refurbishment is the most environmentally friendly type of building, and that the most environmentally friendly materials are those that are reused or left in their natural settings.
How can architecture co-create the future of our world, we at the LINA platform, along with engaged rising professions and intellectuals, are thinking. In what ways will it make it easier to build logical balances in the utilization of resources for space management and construction? What must it set as priorities? What will it be forced to renounce? What will it emphasize?
The LINA Conference in 2022 will feature keynote speakers, 25 featured emerging talents (LINA fellows), and 27 members. The two-day conference will offer chances to network, keep up with the most recent advancements and trends in architecture, and present potential revolutions and visions for the planet’s future.
Guests
Focus Talks will address pressing contemporary issues in architecture and the environment at large with speakers Dr Janez Potočnik, Sarah Ichioka, Dr Milica Topalović and Dr Florian Hertweck.
The roundtable will present successful sustainable practices in architecture, urbanism and beyond with Dr Florian Hertweck, Dr Milica Topalović and Dr Lučka Kajfež Bogataj.
The essay The State of Architecture by Dr Milica Topalović will present an analysis of entries to the LINA Call for Projects and extrapolate findings relevant to the architectural field.
On the second day of the conference, the 25 LINA fellows who were chosen during the Call for Projects will present, debate, and argue their projects with participants on the platform and the audience. Selected projects range from practical architectural solutions to modifications in mobility practices or awareness-raising initiatives from across the European Union and partner nations. The platform’s member organizations will choose those with whom they want to work more closely and include in their LINA Architecture Programme activities.
The Architecture Display, which is held on both conference days, will feature a variety of participants in the field of architecture, including independent architects, architectural offices, and institutions, event planners, curators, and other specialists.
On both days, the additional programme of the conference Plečnik 150, organised by the Faculty of Architecture of the University of Ljubljana, will take place and feature lectures by Andreas Ruby, Jonathan Sergison, Ákos Moravánszky and Kengo Kuma.

About LINA
The European architectural platform LINA is assisting architecture in addressing the environmental and climate change crises. It supports initiatives that contribute to the realization of the European Green Deal. The LINA Architecture Programme is established through an association of LINA members, including architectural museums, universities, research networks, foundations, triennials, biennials, and other architectural organizations.
The member organizations give LINA fellows the opportunity to join their programs each year, showcase their work through talks, seminars, mentorships, or other collaborative formats, and support the spread of their ideas to a global audience.
