Transmediale 2024, an acclaimed festival exploring the intersection of art, technology, and society, returns with a thought-provoking theme: “you’re doing amazing sweetie.” Inspired by the pervasive nature of reality TV, the festival delves into the disturbing reality of our existence as living content, constantly performing for an online audience.

Unfolding across two venues, Season 1 and 2 in silent green Kulturquartier and the Reunion in Haus der Kulturen der Welt (HKW), the three-day program features a diverse array of performances, discussions, film screenings, and exhibitions. The Saturday program will be live-streamed for wider accessibility.

Group Show: this is perfect, perfect, perfect

The festival’s main exhibition, titled “this is perfect, perfect, perfect,” confronts the overwhelming presence of content in our lives. From corporate propaganda to toxic masculinity and sexualized imagery, content bombards us from all angles, blurring the line between consumer and consumed. The exhibition, hosted at Kunstraum Kreuzberg/Bethanien, brings together 13 artists who dissect the hyperbolic and anxiety-inducing narratives that dominate our screens.

Exhibition: Uncensored Lilac

Commissioned specifically for transmediale 2024, “Uncensored Lilac” is an immersive exhibition by Bassam Issa Al-Sabah and Jennifer Mehigan. Set in a dreamlike, hallucinatory landscape, the exhibition tells a compelling story of revenge and desire through a group of goddesses and their peers. Their world has been invaded and altered by the toxicity of the climate crisis, prompting them to confront their relationships with the land, femininity, and isolation. The exhibition features a CGI film, 3D prints, paintings, and sculptures, with the goddesses’ voices performed by an AI voice.
