Hunter College is seeking chair for the Department of Art and Art History, application deadline at February 1, 2023.
The Department of Art and Art History at Hunter College seeks an experienced artist and/or scholar with leadership abilities and a vision for creative arts and humanities education to join the faculty and serve as Department Chair.
The successful candidate will lead a department with large, nationally acclaimed graduate programs in Studio Art and Art History, as well as similarly big and active undergraduate programs in those fields, an Advanced Certificate in Curatorial Studies, and the Hunter College Art Galleries. Candidates must have successful administrative experience in a college or university-level program in Studio Art and/or Art History, as well as teaching experience at the undergraduate and graduate levels, to be considered for appointment as an Associate or Full Professor with tenure in the Hunter College Department of Art and Art History. Artist applicants must have an MFA or a BA/BFA plus significant professional experience; academics must have a PhD in Art History or a closely connected discipline, or an MA and similar professional experience.
How to apply
Candidates should provide a cover letter, a CV, a statement of scholarly interests and leadership philosophy, the contact information for three referees, and, if applicable, a sample of recent publications, a link to your professional website, or ten to fifteen photos of their artwork.
The hiring process will continue until the vacancy is filled. On February 1, 2023, the committee will begin considering complete applications. Applications sent after the deadline will be considered only if the post remains vacant after the first round. Incomplete applications will be rejected.
