The Pew Center for Arts & Heritage (the Center) is seeking candidates to fill the position of Program Officer for Visual Art & Creative Practices who have knowledge of cutting-edge technological applications and online platforms for the public presentation of cultural programming in addition to expertise in the visual arts.

With the help of this job, the Center will continue to support the creation of a thriving, diverse, and inclusive cultural community in the Greater Philadelphia area. This job will function within the Exhibitions & Public Interpretation (EPI) and Performance division of our project grants program, under the strategic direction of the Executive Director. When it comes to the preparation and execution of the Center’s yearly project grant cycle, the program officer will be responsible for reporting to and carefully collaborating with the director of EPI. In order to achieve the goal of the Center, the Program Officer will work with the Directors of EPI and Performance to design a program strategy that actively develops ideas for capacity-building programming, editorial content, publications, and other initiatives.

The program officer serves as an authority on modern visual art. In the disciplines of art practices covered by the project grant funding categories, they will conduct research and establish connections with artists, curators, scholars, and other practitioners. They will use this information in their work to support the Center’s grantmaking and capacity-building initiatives, and they will share what they learn with other important Center constituencies including grantees and Pew Fellows. The program officer interacts with program assistants in all funding areas, provides assistance to grant management staff with grant administration, creates content for and in collaboration with the communications team at the center, and collaborates with the center’s core administrative staff as necessary to support the grantmaking programs. Importantly, program officer functions include managing open grants, staying current on constituent activity generally, and carrying out all procedures related to the Center’s annual peer review panels. Additionally, this program officer will work with others to advance the center’s dedication to diversity, equity, inclusion, and access (DEIA).
