STORIES OF TIME, the third and final installment of TAXISPALAIS’ exhibition trilogy addressing the Western paradigm dilemma (WITCHES/GODDESSES), will look at how humans could challenge the linearity and development that is a key tenet of Western thought. Through concepts like the avant-garde and various institutional kinds, like the museum or the art center, the idea of linear time and its attendant conception of continual forward progress have also been deeply ingrained in art history. This relationship to time, which either historicizes and contains the present or uses it as a kind of commodity, a source of raw materials to be mined for future gain, needs to be rethought. What if we expanded our understanding of the cyclical to include complicated time entanglements and interdependencies rather than just the regular rotation of the clock hands? Imagination, change, and forms of transmitted experiences that take into account the life of the planet and its human and non-human populations would all be crucial elements in this temporality. The knowledge of the past would instead live on through adaptations and incorporations in the here and now, enriching such a vast present beyond the inert trash of the past. Could we have temporal relationships that consider possible treatments without thinking that predetermined calendars would ever be able to predict the future?
