Submission deadline: July 15, 2022

Living Continuity is the inaugural request for proposals from Sharjah Architecture Triennial (SAT) Research.

Living Continuity is a multi-disciplinary and inclusive initiative that welcomes contributions from fields outside of the traditional realm of architecture and urbanism, as well as new perspectives from voices outside of academic research. It is framed as a collective inquiry on the challenges and potentialities of working towards a spatially just urban future.

Authors are encouraged to submit a 250–300 word abstract for a paper that examines socio-spatial and ecological concerns at the neighborhood scale, with a focus on housing, schools, and parks.

Please read the Open Calls portion of the SAT Research webpage here for the questions that Living Continuity is interested in researching, as well as comprehensive directions on how to submit.

About the SAT Study: SAT Research will foster, promote, and produce critical inquiry and research focused on Sharjah and its extended environment to back our vast activities as a platform for architecture and urbanism. SAT Research strives to investigate how architecture and urbanism both contribute to and have the power to repair the imbalance of ecological needs and limits via the perspective of universally relevant socio-spatial and environmental concerns of our day.

The Sharjah Architecture Triennial is a biennial event that takes place in Sharjah, UAE. The Sharjah Architecture Triennial (SAT) was founded in 2018 as a platform for architecture and urbanism in a region that stretches from West Asia to South Asia, as well as the African continent. SAT, which is based in Sharjah and the United Arab Emirates, strives to bring together a wide range of audiences and stakeholders to discuss architecture at the neighborhood, city, and regional levels. In tandem with its foreign editions, institutional research and programming enable on-going critical reflection through exhibitions, publications, and public programs. SAT is dedicated to fostering an awareness of architecture’s broader purpose, including its relationship to social and environmental challenges, using a multi-disciplinary approach.
