The Misk Art Grant is an annual program designed to help young and mid-career artists and designers working in a variety of mediums realize their dream projects. The first of its kind in the kingdom, the award proposes a theme each year and provides selected beneficiaries with opportunity to better their artistic practices through collaboration with curators and mentors.
The Misk Art Grant theme for this year urges artists from the Middle East and North Africa to investigate conceptions of tradition, of an Arab society’s inherited rituals, practices, stories, and ways of thinking that have altered over time. How do we keep our traditions and historical rituals alive in the modern world?
In recent years, social and cultural rules have evolved and adapted to shifting socioeconomic and environmental conditions. Artists are encouraged to investigate traditions that rely on a knowledge of the interplay between the region’s greater shared history and the dynamic regional and local identities that make this a culturally rich and diverse region of the world.
