Gethsemane, a solo exhibition of paintings by Andy Giannakakis, is being announced by Park View/Paul Soto. It is his second exhibition with the gallery.
Giannakakis’ paintings, which have been variously described as puritanical, introspective, and flirtatious, effortlessly switch between genres, temporality, aesthetics, and references throughout the day. He uses an endlessly flexible method. A discipline of contemplative chance, constant tuning and detuning, and limitless variations are what he uses to create a harmonious whole. The outcome is wholly his own, but it is based on a long and prestigious painting heritage. The paintings in this exhibition represent a portion of a bigger collection. His solo exhibition Forced Hand at the Tif Sigfrids Gallery in New York City will feature the remaining pieces. The gallery will have a text made available by the artist.
Andy Giannakakis (b. 1988, Valdosta, Georgia) holds a BFA from the University of Georgia and an MFA from the Rhode Island School of Design. Recent exhibitions of his paintings include shows at La Maison de Rendez-Vous in Brussels, Belgium; Los Angeles Mission College; and Atlanta Contemporary, GA. He lives and works between Athens, Georgia, and Los Angeles, California.
