The Art and Craft Lectures are a yearly lecture series committed to art education and research that emphasizes an interdisciplinary approach to comprehending the relationship between art, theory, and politics. They are held by the Art and Craft Department at Oslo National Academy of the Arts. The series, which is a component of the department’s MFA programs, welcomes academics, artists, and curators from other fields to offer public lectures and take part in a thorough colloquium of readings and intimate engagement with faculty and student research and practice.
The autumn 2022 series, which Sara Yazdani and Susanne M. Winterling organized in consultation with the faculty, is focused on sensing with the aim of rethinking knowledge, body, and practice outside the traditional humanities through aesthetics, perception, matter, and ecologies. It takes the form of customary keynotes that serve as the semester’s course-setting as well as a forum for staff and students to exchange ideas, issues, and practical experiences while keeping the public in the loop.
With a focus on art and craft, as well as art and public space, the lecture series adopts a collaborative approach to practice and research in order to foster inspiration, critical exploration, and collaboration across the arts. We are particularly thrilled to welcome Denise Ferreira da Silva, Rick Dolphijn, and Tai Shani for the fall 2022 program.
Unless otherwise noted, the Art and Craft Lectures are held on Thursdays at 3 PM CET. It takes place at KHiO’s main auditorium and virtually through Zoom. The public is welcome to attend the free lectures.

Denise Ferreira da Silva is a Professor and Director of the Institute for Gender, Race, Sexuality and Social Justice at the University of British Columbia, Vancouver. Ferreira da Silva is an academic and practicing artist whose work addresses the ethico-political challenges of the global present.
Rick Dolphijn is Associate Professor at Media and Culture Studies at Utrecht University, with an interest in transdisciplinary research at large. He publishes widely on continental philosophy and the contemporary arts.
Tai Shani is a British artist that uses performance, film, photography, sculptural installations, and experimental texts to explore forgotten histories and stories. Her talk will center around sensing, psychedelia, feminism, and myth with a particular focus on her film work Neon Hieroglyph (2021).
Susanne M. Winterling is Professor and Head of MFA Program Medium and Material-based Art at Oslo National Academy of the Arts.
Sara Yazdani is Associate Professor of Art History and Theory and Head of Theory (MFA) at Oslo National Academy of the Arts.
