Open call for Stiftung Künstlerdorf Schöppingen residency 2023

Application deadline: August 31, 2022

Each year, the Stiftung Künstlerdorf Schöppingen grants about 40 fellowships in the categories of composition, literature, and visual art. A total of roughly 800 artists have been invited since the Künstlerdorf’s founding in 1989. The fellowships each require a two to six month residency in the Künstlerdorf. Applications for the program are accepted from anywhere in the world and are not age-restricted.

The lonely location near the Dutch border is where the Künstlerdorf is situated. Its guiding principle is to provide a social environment that fosters interdisciplinary artistic and individual growth. The community kitchen, garden, workshop, library, gallery, exhibition hall, and the surrounding area offer space for a wide range of activities and interaction.

The Künstlerdorf Schöppingen values the sharing of information and collegial guidance by creating a welcoming environment free from competition. Contributions to the local and regional environment as well as the transient community of fellows are encouraged. Contributions are optional and not required.

When: From June 20 until August 31, 2022, applicants can submit their applications for the following year. During this time, the application portal is accessible.

Who: Professional musicians, writers, and artists are welcome to submit applications. People of all ages and ethnicities are welcome to answer the call. It is possible to accommodate family members and partners.

What: Each grant is worth 1,500 euros each month, less around 10% for running expenses. Depending on agreement and availability, the grant period, which might last between two and six months, can be selected. Throughout the grant’s length, residency in the Künstlerdorf is required. There is no requirement to deliver work outcomes because the fellowship is not intended to be a production residency. The option to utilize display chances does exist, though. Additionally, we encourage voluntary involvement in the planning of events in the form of lectures, readings, seminars, or other such activities.
