What is the role of architectural exhibitions, given the possibilities of digital communication? How do they translate content into formats that are spatially and physically tangible? What tasks do they assume in the context of contemporary architectural discourse?

These are the questions addressed by the 5th edition of Architecture Exhibitions Weekend BERLIN, initiated by Architektur Galerie Berlin. The event is jointly hosted by all of the institutions in Berlin that regularly show architectural exhibitions and caters to the broadest possible audience, including professionals and the general public. The large number of participating institutions represents a unique spectrum of locations whose exhibition projects reflect multifaceted analogue approaches to communicating topics on architecture, the city, and the environment.

Alongside the private institutions Aedes Architecture Forum, Architektur Galerie Berlin, and Tchoban Foundation, the venues include the exhibition spaces of the Association of German Architects BDA such as BDA Galerie and Deutsches Architekturzentrum (DAZ), as well as the cultural venues Galerie Treppe B, Tschechisches Zentrum, and Berlinische Galerie, and, of course, the Architecture Museum of the Technical University Berlin. For the first time, there will also be a guest exhibition by the International Building Exhibition Basel, as well as a tour of exemplary architectural works around the city, organized by Schaustelle Nachkriegsmoderne, a network of experts focusing on the architecture of postwar modernism.

Together, these 11 hosts will present solo and group shows, discursive formats, and installations. According to Ulrich Müller, director of Architektur Galerie Berlin and the initiator of the event, “The diverse program of Architecture Exhibitions Weekend BERLIN not only reflects but also stimulates and contributes to current debates in architecture.”
