Producers Seaview, Sue Wagner, and John Johnson have announced the complete cast for the highly anticipated production of Hold On to Me Darling, a play by Kenneth Lonergan. Starring Academy Award-nominee Adam Driver and directed by Neil Pepe, performances will begin on September 24 at the Lucille Lortel Theatre, with an official opening set for October 16. The limited engagement will run for 13 weeks.
Driver will take on the role of Strings McCrane, a country music superstar undergoing an existential crisis following the death of his mother. In search of meaning, McCrane decides to abandon fame for a simpler life and returns to his Tennessee hometown.
Joining Driver on stage will be an ensemble cast of talented performers, including Heather Burns (You’ve Got Mail) as Nancy, Adelaide Clemens (Under the Banner of Heaven) as Essie, Keith Nobbs (Four) as Jimmy, CJ Wilson (The Big Knife) as Duke, and Tony Award-winner Frank Wood (Side Man) as Mitch.
The play, a tragicomedy, explores themes of loss, identity, and the struggle to find purpose beyond the allure of celebrity. Hold On to Me Darling showcases Lonergan’s signature blend of humor and poignancy, offering audiences a deeply human story.
The production’s creative team includes scenic designer Walt Spangler, co-costume designers Suttirat Larlarb and Lizzie Donelan, lighting designer Tyler Micoleau, and sound designer David Van Tieghem.
Hold On to Me Darling promises to be a standout theatrical event, combining a powerful narrative with stellar performances.
