Cate Blanchett to Lead New Production of “The Seagull”
The renowned actress Cate Blanchett is set to grace the London stage once again in a new production of Anton Chekhov’s classic play, “The Seagull.” Blanchett will take on the role of Arkadina in the adaptation by Duncan Macmillan and Thomas Ostermeier, which will run at the Barbican Theatre from February 2025.
Joining Blanchett will be Tom Burke, who recently worked with her on Steven Soderbergh’s upcoming film, “Black Bag.” Ostermeier, who directed a previous production of “The Seagull,” expressed his admiration for Blanchett’s talent and his excitement about collaborating with her on this new project.
The production will feature a strictly limited six-week run, with over 100 £20 tickets available at every performance. Tickets will go on sale to the public on October 9 at 10am.
Blanchett’s previous appearance on the Barbican stage was in 2012, when she starred in a production of “Botho Strauss’s Big and Small.” She has also made significant contributions to the Broadway stage, including her performance in “The Present” in 2017.
The full cast and creative team for the new production of “The Seagull” will be announced at a later date, along with the exact show dates.
