October 3–December 9, 2022
Thousands of students, AA Members, tourists, and critics come together to explore architectural concepts, discourse, and practice forms during the AA Public Programme’s lectures, exhibitions, symposia, gallery talks, and performances.
AA Approaches
Monday October 3, 2022 to Friday October 7, 2022 at 6:30pm (UK time), AA Lecture Hall
A week-long festival of ideas called AA Approaches examines the approaches and methods that have been developed by the AA while drawing on its traditions and legacy. The series celebrates the beginning of the new academic year, the AA’s 175th birthday, and Ingrid Schroder’s appointment as AA Director.
Stories about Sustainability
Mondays at 1pm (UK time), online
Stories about Sustainability explores concepts influenced by global architecture, materials, and history. The series will ask architects to propose a current project that illustrates how historical materiality and craftsmanship may inform future construction practices that are more environmentally friendly.
New Standards
Thursdays at 6:30pm (UK time), AA Lecture Hall
In New Standards, some of the obstacles to architecture, its practice, and its education will be discussed, along with solutions for how to get around them and welcome more diverse types of creativity. Every event in the series will tackle the subject of comfort in an effort to refute the notion that “standards” should be the absolute minimum or a one-size-fits-all solution. We will discuss how we may better offer comfort in all of its many guises.
Conceptualising ConteXt, Bernard Tschumi
Mark Cousins Annual Lecture
Friday October 21, 2022, 6:30pm (UK time), AA Lecture Hall
Inaugural Mark Cousins Annual Lecture by Bernard Tschumi. The talk will go through how settings and architectural ideas are inextricably linked but frequently at odds with one another. While the context may produce, obscure, or decrease the accuracy of an architectural idea, the concept may negate or ignore the conditions that surround it. Which one of these two terms should be used first?
La Fotografia Terra-Terra / Down to Earth Photography
Saturday October 15, 2022, 2pm (UK time), AA Lecture Hall
The Otto volte due exhibition at Large Glass, which features a collection of fresh and recent analogue photography by eight contemporary photographers who are a part of a thriving community working across a network of small towns in the eastern Romagna region of Italy, runs concurrently with this symposium.
Part of a City: The Work of Neave Brown Architect
Friday November 18, 2022, 2pm (UK time), AA Lecture Hall

The Future is a Journey to the Past: Stories about Sustainability
Friday September 23 to Saturday October 29, 2022 in the AA Gallery
In order to foster the ecological thinking required to bridge the gap between the natural world and human activity, including, of course, architecture, the exhibition The Future is a Journey to the Past: Stories about Sustainability, curated by Mario Cucinella Architects, examines both historical and contemporary notions of sustainability.
Alberto Cruz: Observation, Act and Form
Friday November 11 to Saturday December 10, 2022 in the AA Gallery
An exhibition of sketches, paintings, and drawings by Chilean architect and professor Alberto Cruz is called Observation, Act, and Form (1917–2013).
