Until its demolition 23 artists will be allowed a “carte blanche” to show their works in the “Apollo-Hochhaus” located at Königsallee 106, an office building built in 1967 where the magnificent Apollo-Theatre formerly stood.

The fairly unremarkable skyscraper with its glass façade, height of 69 meters and 18 stories, will become an exciting venue for a wide variety of artistic interventions for a few weeks. The time-based and cross-media works not only reflect the dramatic history of the site, but also negotiate—in interaction with the ever-visible surrounding city—related social processes and concerns of our present.

Based on the subject of the exhibition FALSE SPRING, the artists from different backgrounds specifically confront issues concerning environment-related, consumer-society themes, both on a conceptual and material level. In their processes of developing ideas, individuals refer to personal associations with nature, desire or repulsion.

The show takes place on more than 2,500 square meters in the lobby and first floor. The exhibited pieces are being developed especially for this area.

(…) the work with students from the seminar ‘urban stage’ follows the deep interest in dealing with urban voids and spaces outside the KHM, which pose questions about their socio-political use and cultural significance as well as their inscription in urban history!” —Mischa Kuball

The exhibition is accompanied by a catalogue with an article by Nana Tazuke, Museum Ludwig Cologne.

With works by Javkhlan Ariunbold, Gina Bojahr, Dagmar Buchenthal, Cătălina Bucos, Bidisha Das, Tim Dönges, Corinna Duschl, Karen Fritz, Kurt Heuvens, Ada Kopaz, Polina Korovina, Mayuko Kudo, Tatsiana Licheuskaya, Yves Oh, Adéọlá Ọlágúnjú, Anastasia Osoianu, Kihuun Park, Julian Quentin, Lukas Schmidt, Hye Young Sin, Christi Knak Tschaikowskaja, Nikolay Ulyanov, Julia Vergazova
