Rinascimento”: “Rebirth” in the post-pandemic era through art
The sixth Lih Pao International Sculpture Biennial Awards will be open for submission from May 5 to December 30, 2022. With the mission of “taking root in Taiwan, connecting to the world, and making achievements for ten years” to contribute to society, Lih Pao Cultural Arts Foundation has been actively cultivating new artists in Taiwan with the hope of connecting to the world with sculpture and letting the world see Taiwan. Over 1,000 artists from 58 countries have participated in the biennial awards. As a world-renowned sculpture hall of fame, we expect to both gather international elites and promote new artists. To break artistic boundaries again, this year’s submission canceled the upper age limit of 50 years old. Anyone over 18 years old can submit their works created with materials suitable for long-term display. We welcome sculptors from all over the world to send us submissions! The preliminary shortlist will be announced in March 2023. The winner list is expected to be announced and the award-giving ceremony to be held in October 2023.

The theme of the sixth Lih Pao International Sculpture Biennial Awards, “Rinascimento,” originates from the Renaissance of the 14th century in Italy and means “rebirth.” After the long darkness of the Middle Ages, classical art experienced a splendid revival. In the turmoil of the pandemic today in the 21st century, the world remains in an uneasy atmosphere. The biennial awards this year are expected to bring more beautiful changes to the world as art crosses the barrier between east and west and removes barriers between countries and ethnic groups. Breaking the cocoon with new life, the lexicons of sculpture will gallop into the torrent of art and anchor the mind so that the world’s post-pandemic rebirth will recreate the classics and eternal life! Lih Pao Cultural Arts Foundation specially invites famous sculptors and artists from France, the UK, Japan, and Taiwan to be judges, including the famous stone sculpture artist from France, Nicolas Bertoux, the famous contemporary sculptor from the UK, Jason deCaires Taylor, and the sculpture authority from Japan, Izumi Hatano, as well as sculpture masters from Taiwan, Lai Chi-man and Han Hsu-tung. The judge, Jason deCaires Taylor, is also a previous winner, taking the award home in the third competition. Building the first underwater sculpture park in the world, he is now a world-famous contemporary sculptor. Having judges from different countries establishes a foundation of professionalism and quality in the judging process of the sixth Lih Pao International Sculpture Biennial Awards.

The sixth Lih Pao International Sculpture Biennial Awards specially invites the Ministry of Culture to be the adviser and is collaborating with Bureau Français de Taipei to gather the strength of art and pass on the artistic torch to the new century. The cooperation among businesses, government, and academia is supported by the Department of Sculpture of National Taiwan University of Arts, School of Fine Arts of Taipei National University of the Arts, and Okinawa Prefectural University of Arts, Japan as the co-organizers. It is expected to connect the different walks of life and integrate diverse viewpoints so that the submission message will spread to the world, attract worldwide artists to participate, and upgrade the international presence of Taiwan. The sixth Lih Pao International Sculpture Biennial Awards will be held as schedules under the pandemic. It is expected to show the common value and strong resilience of art, build cultural bridges between Taiwan and the world through sculpture, and provide an international exchange platform for new artists around the world. Through creation, art can carry infinite hope. Let’s weave a better future together with the rich language of sculpture!
