The 5th VH AWARD, Asia’s foremost award for new media artists, is now open for submissions from Hyundai Motor Group.
Five finalists will be given the opportunity to create new work, participate in an online residency program, and display their work at exhibitions hosted by prestigious platforms and institutions throughout the world.
Individual artists, teams, and collectives who are interested in Asia and its future are encouraged to apply.
Between May 26, 2022 and July 28, 2022, applications can be filed on the VH AWARD website.
The 5th VH Honor, Asia’s foremost award for new media artists, is now accepting applications. The VH AWARD, which was established in 2016, promotes the discovery and presentation of young media artists that fuse art and technology and engage with Asia’s past, present, and future.
Applicants for the 5th edition of the award must submit a proposal to create audiovisual screen-based works such as video art, moving picture, cinema, motion graphics, computer animation, gaming, and more. Individuals, teams, and collectives can all submit applications. Artists from all over the world, including those with a link to Asia but who are based outside of Asia, will be considered. From May 26, 2022 through July 28, 2022, submissions can be made on the VH AWARD website.
A group of international jurors will assess proposals for the 5th VH AWARD in 2022. Finalists will be chosen based on their creativity and aesthetics, as well as their compelling concept and innovation, presentation quality, and clever use of technology. Martin Honzik (Chief Curatorial Officer and Managing Director of Ars Electronica Festival, Prix, and Exhibitions); Sook-Kyung Lee (Senior Curator, International Art (Hyundai Tate Research Centre: Transnational) of Tate Modern); Roderick Schrock (Curator, Executive Director of Eyebeam); Aaron Seeto (Director of Museum MACAN); and Yukiko Shikata (Director of Museum MACAN) are among the jury (Independent curator and art critic).
Each of the five shortlisted artists, teams, or collectives will get a 25,000 USD grant to create new artworks. In addition, the five shortlisted artists or teams will be invited to participate in an online residency program led by EYEBEAM’s networked artists and curators from October to December 2022 before submitting their final works, thanks to a partnership with EYEBEAM, a prominent not-for-profit art and technology center based in New York City.
In May 2023, the winner of the Grand Prix will be declared at an award ceremony. The winner will get an additional prize of $25,000 USD, and all finalists’ artworks will be displayed on various platforms throughout the world.
