The region of Monferrato in Northern Italy is set to host the fourth edition of Panorama Monferrato, an expansive exhibition curated by ITALICS, a network uniting over 70 galleries specializing in ancient, modern, and contemporary art. This year’s exhibition will run from September 4 to 8, 2024, bringing a vibrant cultural event to the historic towns of Camagna, Vignale, Montemagno, and Castagnole. This marks a distinct shift from the previous editions, immersing visitors in a rural context where the landscape, heritage, and traditions of the Monferrato region play a central role.

Curated by Carlo Falciani, Panorama Monferrato will create a dynamic dialogue between contemporary art and the rich history of the region. The exhibition will span across 16 unique venues, including historical buildings, churches, and outdoor spaces, providing a captivating backdrop for the works of 63 artists represented by 62 ITALICS galleries. These artists range from masters of the past to contemporary creators who are shaping the art world today.

Inspired by Stefano Guazzo’s La civil conversazione, a text that explores the art of conversation as a path to meditation, this exhibition is designed to be experienced slowly, allowing visitors to immerse themselves fully in the cultural and historical significance of the region. The exhibition serves as both a reflection on the past and an exploration of how these historical contexts can influence contemporary art.

Panorama Monferrato is organized under the patronage of UNESCO, the Italian Ministry of Culture, and the Piedmont Region, with the support of local towns and the territorial coordination of Alexala—Agenzia Turistica Locale della provincia di Alessandria and Ente Turismo Langhe Monferrato Roero. This collaboration highlights the importance of local engagement in preserving and promoting the cultural heritage of Monferrato.

This year’s edition of Panorama is generously supported by Belmond, which has confirmed its role as the Main Partner for the third consecutive year. The event is also sponsored by Intesa Sanpaolo and has received media support from Il Giornale dell’Arte. Poste Italiane serves as the Venue Sponsor, underscoring the significance of the event in the broader cultural landscape.

The exhibition venues are as varied as they are historic. In Camagna, the Loggiato del Palazzo Comunale and Ex Cottolengo will host a range of works, while Vignale’s Palazzo Callori and Teatro di Palazzo Callori will provide a stunning setting for other parts of the exhibition. In Montemagno, visitors can explore art within the walls of Castello di Montemagno and its surrounding gardens. Finally, Castagnole’s Chiesa dell’Annunziata and Teatro Comunale Fiorenzo Rizzone will round out the exhibition’s venues, each contributing to the unique narrative woven by the artists and the region’s history.

Among the featured artists are Vincenzo Agnetti, Carlo Amalfi, and contemporary figures like Theaster Gates and Latifa Echakhch. These artists, along with many others, contribute to a rich tapestry of work that reflects on the history and contemporary realities of Italian and international art.

Panorama Monferrato is not just an art exhibition; it is a journey through time and space, where the past meets the present in a dialogue that is both reflective and forward-thinking. Visitors are invited to take part in this conversation, exploring how the rural landscapes and historical contexts of Monferrato can inspire and shape the future of art.

As the exhibition approaches, anticipation builds for what promises to be a unique and immersive cultural experience. For those interested in contemporary art, history, or simply the beauty of the Italian countryside, Panorama Monferrato offers an unparalleled opportunity to engage with all three.
