Open call for Autumn Intensive: Emergent
July 15–August 20, 2024
The Autumn Intensive is launching its open call for applications from July 15 to August 20, 2024. This innovative research program, held entirely online, offers a unique micro-lab environment for emerging artists and researchers to explore the concept of “Emergent” as it relates to visual thinking.
Autumn Intensive is designed to bring together young artists and researchers from various disciplines. Participants will engage in both individual and collective reflections with art professionals and scholars, delving into source materials and movements that challenge disciplinary boundaries and normative artistic-critical thinking.
The theme of this year’s program, “Emergent,” represents the process of coming into being, or knowledge emerging from a particular sensuous reasoning that pushes disciplinary limits. This theme will guide the diverse content of Autumn Intensive, which spans philosophy, art theory, art history, art science, media studies, and critical theory.
Participants will support a writing-research project over a limited timeframe, through seminars, writing exercises, and outside-of-class assignments. The program culminates in a research proposal to be shared with fellow students and guest conductors of Autumn Intensive. Successful participants will submit a solid and promising research proposal by the end of the course.
Autumn Intensive is inclusive and operates as an extended “meeting without walls,” welcoming postgraduate students from around the globe. It accommodates a maximum of 25 participants, ensuring a focused and collaborative learning experience. Students from the arts and other disciplines, working in any genre—academic, criticism, curatorial, fiction, or theory—are encouraged to apply.
The program’s assessment includes active participation in seminars and the presentation of individual projects. International guest speakers for Autumn Intensive 2024 include Rosa Barba, Rebecca Carson, Adriana Cavarero, Alex Coles, Özge Ersoy from Asia Art Archive, Filipe Ferreira, Esther Leslie, Michael Marder, and Verina Gfader.
Instruction will be conducted in English. There are no fees for students from Europe, while a fee of 25,000 SEK is required for students from the UK and overseas.
Autumn Intensive is a project of “Emergent,” emphasizing interdisciplinary approaches and encouraging the development of unique, non-reproducible knowledge.
