The teaching paradigm provided by Cranbrook Academy of Art is really exceptional. It is fundamentally a very radical experiment based on the idea that when people are given the time and freedom to pursue their passions in a welcoming society, incredible things might occur. We are a thriving community of architects, artists, and designers who live and work on a campus that was created with that objective in mind.
On November 12 from 10 am to 4 pm, stop by graduation open house to see it for yourself. Meet the Artists-in-Residence (who double as the department heads and the primary faculty), tour the buildings and studios, discover campus life, and take a Collections Wing Tour at the Cranbrook Art Museum.
The Academy is unique compared to every other MFA or M.Arch program in the nation. We provide an unscripted approach that concentrates the questions and interests of artists who choose to come here in an effort to make sense of a constantly changing environment, free from conventional classes and a defined curriculum.
With up to 150 graduate students participating in our innovative program, artists-in-residence guide students in architecture, 2D design, 3D design, 4D design, ceramics, fiber, metalsmithing, painting, photography, print media, and sculpture as they seek to artistically affect modern culture. A rigorous academic program, self-directed studio work, critique, and a full schedule of guest artists, architects, designers, and philosophers make up the curriculum.
For dedicated students who desire to advance their work, two-year MFA or MArch programs are excellent. Full tuition assistance, grants, unlimited studio time, and unrestricted access to on-site museum of modern art are all available at Cranbrook.
Please RSVP here, where you will also find a schedule of events.
