University of Applied Arts Vienna’s Department of Digital Art invites aspiring digital creatives to join their combined BA/MFA program, a free-tuition initiative designed to empower a global community of artists and innovators.
Celebrating 40 years of excellence, this program builds on the pioneering legacy of media art education established in 1984 by visionary artist and theorist Peter Weibel. The department, now led by the renowned UBERMORGEN collective, continues to redefine the boundaries of digital media with a decentralized curriculum and project-based learning.
Program Details
The four-year dual-degree program is open to applicants from all educational backgrounds. The only prerequisites are curiosity and motivation—formal education is not required. Classes are conducted primarily in English, and the program embraces diversity by welcoming neurodivergent individuals and global talents.

Tuition Fees
While the program boasts free tuition for many, minimal semester fees apply based on the applicant’s country of origin, as per the OECD classification:
•EU/EEA/Swiss & lower-income countries: €24 per semester
•Upper middle-income countries: €375 per semester
•Other regions: €750 per semester
Portfolio Guidelines
Applicants are encouraged to submit portfolios showcasing their creative journey, whether polished or experimental. Accepted formats include works-in-progress, sketches, concepts, or finished projects across various mediums such as 3D, AR/VR, sound experiments, coding, NFTs, and more. A brief write-up detailing the artist’s inspirations, methods, struggles, and ambitions is essential, along with a concise CV and a photograph.
