Curatorial scholarship 2025/26
Application Deadline: August 31, 2024

Braunschweig University of Art (HBK), one of Germany’s largest art schools, has announced an open call for its prestigious curatorial scholarship, which will begin on April 1, 2025. The deadline for applications is August 31, 2024.

The scholarship is part of the renowned “Braunschweig Projects” programme, which offers annual stipends to emerging artists and curators. HBK’s programme seeks to enhance curatorial practice within its institution while fostering collaboration with academic staff, students, and the artistic community of Lower Saxony.

The selected curator will play a key role in developing and executing the final exhibition of the Braunschweig Projects’ artistic fellows. In addition, the scholarship holder is expected to devise their own curatorial project that ideally aligns with a museum, collection, or cultural institution in Lower Saxony. The project should include research, planning, and execution, as well as an educational or accompanying programme.

The position comes with a stipend of €1,400 per month for twelve months, along with a €4,000 project subsidy and €2,000 for travel expenses. A fully equipped workplace will be provided at HBK Braunschweig, and the curator is expected to be present on campus for at least one week per month. Though housing is not provided, the scholarship presents a unique opportunity to engage with HBK’s extensive network and develop curatorial skills through a teaching assignment, which will be separately remunerated.

Applicants must have a minimum of three years of curatorial experience and should submit their application by August 31, 2024, at 11:59 p.m. via email to kuratieren-stipendium[at]hbk-bs.de.

The decision will be made by an expert jury and the board of HBK, with the selected applicant notified in due course.

For detailed application requirements and additional information, interested applicants are encouraged to visit the HBK website.
