Apexart, a respected arts organization, is offering educators and students the chance to participate in its biannual open call for exhibition proposals. This initiative provides students with a unique opportunity to engage with the curatorial process, enhancing their understanding of global art practices and critical thinking.

The apexart open call stands out by inviting 500-word, idea-based group exhibition concepts, which do not require images, links, videos, or CVs. Each proposal is evaluated by a jury of around 700 international arts professionals, who review the submissions anonymously and randomly. This process helps ensure that the selected exhibitions reflect the interests of a broad audience, aligning with apexart’s principles of fairness and inclusivity.

Educators are encouraged to sign up their classes to serve as jurors in the open call. Through this participation, students gain practical experience in evaluating exhibition proposals, contributing directly to real-world programming decisions. This involvement also provides a valuable addition to their résumés and a deeper understanding of the criteria involved in curatorial decision-making.

By participating as jurors, students are exposed to proposals from various countries, broadening their perspectives on global art trends and practices. This global exposure is increasingly important in today’s interconnected world.

The program also promotes productive classroom discussions, using provided online materials to facilitate debates on the nature of art, its purposes, and what makes a proposal effective. This engagement helps students develop their critical thinking skills as they analyze and assess artistic concepts.

Apexart’s open call is a valuable educational tool, offering students a meaningful experience that prepares them to navigate the curatorial process with greater insight and understanding.
