A remarkable discovery has been made in Romania: an elderly woman has unknowingly possessed one of the largest known amber nuggets in the world for decades. The 3.5-kilogram stone, valued at approximately €1 million, was found in a stream bed and used as a doorstop until its true value was realized.
The extraordinary fossil resin was discovered by a relative of the woman, who inherited the stone after her death. Recognizing its potential value, the relative sold the amber to the Romanian state, which classified it as a national treasure.
Experts from the Museum of History in Krakow, Poland, confirmed the authenticity of the amber and estimated its age to be between 38.5 and 70 million years old. The exceptional size and quality of the stone make it a significant discovery both scientifically and culturally.
