Registration deadline: January 15, 2023
Oikos Venezia, a leading Venetian company in the planning and design of high-end entrance doors, and the Querini Stampalia Foundation in Venice, announce the first edition of DoorScape, an international contest created to support and disseminate the architectural culture of the entrance space with the involvement, as partner companies, of Adler, Iseo and Laminam.
The two promoters’ efforts were combined to create the competition. Oikos Venezia is a business with decades of experience working with architectural culture, and it has always placed a high value on multidisciplinarity, which is seen as a source of strength and development. On the other hand, the Querini Stampalia Foundation collaborates with businesses on projects for the development of a fresh and shared vision of the future through OpificioQuerini, the ground-breaking corporate membership project launched in 2020. In addition to Oikos Venezia, there are currently nine partnering businesses and one ambassador, the Firm AMDL Circle, directed by Michele De Lucchi.
The DoorScape competition, for which you can register on the website until January 15, 2023, is the result of extensive thought on the architectural space of the entrance in all of its varied meanings, purposes, and relationships. This location is frequently the same one where the threshold is important for both establishing a passageway and safeguarding the environment to which this area leads. This idea alludes to a setting where several fields are involved, various roles are played, various functions are drawn from, and stories about symbols are there. Participants in this first edition are asked to address these topics, which were developed by Oikos Venezia and the Querini Stampalia Foundation in Venice.
The required project must take into account an entrance area that may communicate the conversation between the function of access to a location, in all of its various cultural, functional, and formal characteristics, and that of the environment’s protection.
The winning project will be displayed alongside the other finalists in the Carlo Scarpa-designed space at the Querini Stampalia Foundation in 2023 in conjunction with the 18th International Architecture Exhibition of La Biennale, which is held in Venice. The winning project will also receive a cash prize of 10,000 EUR.
The works of the participants will be judged by an international panel of leading professionals in the field, who will then decide on a prize. high-profile experts from several professions, as required by the competition. Michele De Lucchi and AMDL Circle, a professional and architectural firm that personifies the concept of knowledge contamination, serve as the jury’s chairmen.
The other members of the jury: Donatella Calabi, urban historian; Alessandra Chemollo photographer; Emanuele Coccia philosopher; Luciano Giubbilei landscape and garden designer; and Eugenia Morpurgo researcher designer. The jury reflects the character of the entire initiative and the criteria for the project selection: the content of each contest project, besides demonstrating the appropriate technical skills, should not overlook the cultural aim that the entire operation pursues, as well as the specializations of the different members of the jury.
