The 19th edition of Art Fair Tokyo is set to take place from March 7–9, 2025, at the Tokyo International Forum. Building on the success of its previous edition, the fair continues to be a significant event in the global art market, attracting both local and international galleries, collectors, and enthusiasts.
The 18th edition, held from March 8–10, 2024, was a resounding success. Over four days, the fair welcomed 55,015 visitors and achieved total sales estimated at JPY 3.28 billion, according to exhibitor surveys. The event featured 156 galleries from 25 cities, including seven international galleries, and was supported by 19 embassies and 13 cultural organizations.
Art Fair Tokyo has established itself not just as a marketplace but as a vital platform for cultural exchange. Under the auspices of the Agency for Cultural Affairs and supported by various embassies and municipalities, the fair plays a crucial role in reflecting and supporting the art market, particularly during uncertain economic times.
The 2024 fair showcased a diverse array of artworks, ranging from antiques to contemporary pieces, with some valued at over JPY 100 million. This broad spectrum of offerings and the strong purchasing interest from attendees underscored the resilience of the Japanese art market, which continues to follow trends seen in the US and European markets.
Looking ahead to the 2025 edition, expectations remain high. Despite the ongoing instability in financial markets, Art Fair Tokyo is poised to continue its growth and contribute to the expansion of the Japanese art market. Kiichi Kitajima, Managing Director of Art Fair Tokyo, emphasized the fair’s commitment to supporting galleries exploring opportunities in Japan. “Art Fair Tokyo is welcoming to galleries seeking new opportunities in Japan. We are committed to providing full support to exhibitors who wish to take on challenges in the Japanese market,” Kitajima stated.
As the 2025 edition approaches, Art Fair Tokyo remains dedicated to enhancing trust and confidence among its participants, ensuring a vibrant and robust platform for art exchange.
