Open call: residency 2025–2026
Application period: September 1–October 1, 2024
The Rijksakademie van beeldende kunsten in Amsterdam is calling for applications for its 2025–2026 artist residency program. This prestigious program offers a unique opportunity for artists from around the world to develop their work over one or two years in a vibrant, international, and multi-disciplinary environment.
The residency at Rijksakademie provides artists with a dedicated studio, a work budget, and a stipend, creating an environment conducive to deep exploration and creative growth. Residents benefit from a range of exchange opportunities, including peer-to-peer dialogue and visits from leading art professionals. Additionally, they have access to advanced technical workshops, an extensive library, and a historical collection, all supported by technical specialists who encourage innovative and collaborative approaches.
Ideal candidates for the residency are artists who are eager to challenge themselves and expand their practices within a diverse and supportive community. The program is open to artists who have completed a BA or MA degree and have at least 2-3 years of independent professional practice. Each year, the Rijksakademie selects approximately 23 artists for the residency, creating a dynamic community of 46 residents, with half of the group coming from or based in the Netherlands and the other half from various countries around the globe.
The residency period spans from September 2025 to August 2026, with the possibility of a one-year extension. However, applicants should be aware that potential building maintenance in autumn 2025 may delay the start of the residency until January 2026. In such a case, residents will receive an extension until December 2026 to compensate for the delay.
Artists interested in applying can submit their applications online between September 1, 2024 (12am CET), and October 1, 2024 (11:59pm CET). The online application form will be available on the Rijksakademie website during this period.
