Autumn School of Curating with Kate Fowle
October 20–27, 2024
Application deadline: August 20
The Art Encounters Foundation (Timișoara) and Cluj Cultural Centre (Cluj-Napoca) announce the open call for the sixth edition of the Autumn School of Curating, taking place in Cluj and Timișoara, Romania from October 20 to 27, 2024. This intensive eight-day seminar, led by esteemed curator Kate Fowle, provides an international platform for emerging curators to engage in dialogue, knowledge exchange, and learning.
Centered around the theme “Worlding: What does it mean to be ‘international’ today?” the program will immerse participants in the vibrant artistic landscapes of both cities. It will explore how art and curatorial practices address global political issues, considering the complexities of climate change, displacement, and conflict. Participants will delve into questions about working outside their own cultural and social contexts, responding to multiple worldviews, and identifying any universal aspects of curating.
The Autumn School of Curating is designed for emerging professionals in the fields of curating and art writing, with at least three years of experience. The program is free of charge and open to international candidates, with accommodation covered from October 20 to 27, 2024, and transport from Cluj-Napoca to Timișoara on October 23. All courses will be conducted in English, and participants are required to be present in person for the entire duration.
Applications can be submitted until August 20, 2024, using the application form available at academiaschimbarii.ro. Selected participants will be notified by August 30, 2024, following a review by Kate Fowle and representatives from the Art Encounters Foundation and Cluj Cultural Centre.
