Kunsthalle Recklinghausen presents group exhibiton Different than it seems from December 4, 2022 to January 29, 2023.
Modern art was distinguished by a creative tension between its reception and the work itself: on the one hand, it was intended to display profoundly its materiality and structures, while on the other hand, it frequently appeared to be something other than what it is.
Finally, a large part of the public’s interest with contemporary art and its success originates from this duality, which persists to this day. This topic is examined through four current artistic activities in the exhibition.
With generous support by Ruhrfestspielstadt Recklinghausen, RuhrKunstMuseen, WDR3, Wallonie Bruxelles International, Féderation Wallonie-Bruxelles.
The Kunsthalle Recklinghausen is one of the city’s municipal museums, with a collection of over 5,000 pieces that has expanded steadily since it was formed in 1950 by the artist collective “junger westen” in a 1,000 sqm former WWII above ground bunker. The Kunsthalle Recklinghausen is one of the 21 RuhrKunstMuseen, a unique collection of museums in the Ruhr region.
