Our goal at Pine Meadow Ranch Center for Arts & Agriculture (PMRCAA) is to link traditional and modern crafts and skills essential to ranching life with sustainable agricultural methods, conservation, the arts, and sciences.

The residency program at PMRCAA provides access to studios, open areas, and breathtaking landscape so that cultural practitioners, ecologists, and creative thinkers can fully immerse themselves in their work and research. The PMRCAA is looking for cultural practitioners and scientists that want to interact with the community and a working ranch.

We invite artists, ecological scientists, and scholars whose work explores the theme of “Food & Agriculture” to apply for a 2023 residency in Sisters, Oregon (USA).

In order for people to thrive, for environments to be sustainable, for economies to develop, and for communities to be resilient, food is a must. As our environment, climate, and population continue to change, many agricultural techniques will need to evolve (if they haven’t already) to meet the challenges. Significant efforts have been undertaken in recent years to move away from the industrialized system that currently dominates the food industry in the hopes that it would be replaced by a variety of more holistic methods and sources of food production solutions. These initiatives also investigate cooperative community connections that result in community-supported agriculture projects like farmers markets and seed to table cooperatives, which motivate us to eat more locally and seasonally.

Our goal is to investigate ways that we and our communities may better understand regional food systems (from production to processing to distribution to consumption) and to investigate innovative methods for bolstering local food systems.
