Dea Kulumbegashvili, Isaki Lacuesta, Lemohang Jeremiah Mosese, and Jia Zhang-ke, four filmmakers who have modified their usual practice of making films for cinema to creating cinematographic installations for an exhibition hall, present their audiovisual works in the exhibition Vive le cinéma!, which explores the limits of cinema. The four well-known filmmakers from around the world accepted Tabakalera’s invitation to take part in an exhibition by creating an audiovisual installation.
The exhibition’s central concept is the rediscovering of cinema and how light and sound go beyond the screen. New “expanded cinema” techniques, as well as new ways of listening, viewing, and experimenting, are central to the four artists’ creative processes across the entire exhibition. Two of the four submissions that make up the exhibition, those by Jia Zhang-ke and Mosese, were shown at the Eye Filmmuseum in Amsterdam, a renowned European organization with which Tabakalera worked to organize this show. Those by Lacuesta and Kulumbegashvili, on the other hand, were specifically created for this exhibition.
With the launch of Vive le cinéma!, Tabakalera dedicates itself to the 70th anniversary of the San Sebastian Film Festival and completes its offer of exhibitions for the upcoming months, after the inauguration of Imagine a Film Festival, along with the San Sebastian Film Festival, and the launch next July 14 of the new proposal by Scala on the main staircase of Tabakalera, where filmmaker Carlos Casas will propose a new sound installation entitled Mutia.
