Call for applications 2023–24: MA Choreography at Inter-University Center for Dance Berlin (HZT), Berlin

Application period: October 1–November 1, 2022

MA Choreography (maC) at HZT Berlin: apply now for maC 2023/24. Online application period is October 1 through November 1, 2022 for study beginning in the winter semester 2023/24. Application deadline: November 1, 2022 at 11:59pm.

The two-year Master’s in Choreography (maC) program gives students the opportunity to refine and expand their individual artistic practices. The maC encourages an active debate on socio-political issues through choreography and views issues of participation, cooperation, and social responsibility as important to modern choreography.

The students’ interactions with the ideas, creations, and working techniques of other artists cause them to reconsider their own choreographic approaches and conceptions of choreography. They evaluate their work, grow as artists, and learn how to communicate their aesthetic principles. The Master’s program emphasizes experimentation and blends artistic instruction with real-world professional assistance.

A practice- and research-driven education in contemporary dance, choreography, and performance is offered at the HZT Berlin. The courses, which take an experimental approach to learning and combine practice-led artistic and research-driven education with useful career assistance, are characterized by a close relationship between academic learning and professional artistic work. The curricula include all of these topics as essential elements: encouraging individual artistic growth, contextualizing art and art practice, and critical reflection on art and art practice. In today’s diverse social and cultural situations, emphasis is put on addressing creatively and critically what dance, performance, and choreography are and can be as art forms.
