September 9–11, 2022
An upcoming symposium called The Reconstruction of Ukraine will pay special attention to cities, architecture, art, culture, and psychological trauma, but the range of the discussions it hopes to spark is far broader. The discussions held and led by the symposium’s more than forty international speakers may eventually result in a variety of projects, initiatives, and experiments carried out by governmental organizations, local governments, educational and cultural organizations, as well as other more ephemeral actors. The goal of this symposium is to create a forum for discussion, facilitating interaction, teamwork, and fruitful debate amongst various players and initiatives.
The symposium will take place over three days from September 9—September 11, 2022 (7am–4pm EDT / 12–8pm GMT+1 / 2–10pm GMT+3). To register, please follow this link.
“Ruination, Resistance, Shelter: Responses to the Direct Impact of War” is the theme of the symposium’s first day. Discussions on ecocide, urbicide, displacement, cultural heritage, and infrastructure will follow an introductory panel. “Representation, Mourning, Memory: Working Through War” is the theme of day two. The topics of trauma, grief, mourning, conflict, the arts of witness, historical accounts, and institutional practices will all be covered in this section. “Solidarity, Appropriation, Justice: Generating Common Futures” is the theme of the third and last day. Master planning, micro planning, restitution, the political economy of reconstruction, reconciliation, retaliation, and international solidarity will all be covered in this section.
