Application deadline: September 5, 2022

The New Centre will begin its ninth year of operation in September, delivering cutting-edge online graduate-level seminars in art & curation, philosophy, architecture & design, and transdisciplinary humanities, thanks to the ongoing support of friends, members, and students.

Now accepting scholarship applications from July 28 through September 5, 2022 for our certificate programs. Please complete this form to apply. A writing sample and a cover letter should be sent with applications, highlighting your intellectual interests and outlining your need for financial assistance. Global South applicants will automatically be evaluated for 50% scholarships. Our grantees of full scholarships are split equally between women and those from the Global South. This automatic consideration will also be extended to anyone impacted by the conflict in Ukraine. Additionally, we have started a GoFundMe effort to pay for Mstislav Kazakov’s tuition and two full scholarships for Ukrainian applicants.

The New Centre’s fall/winter 2022–23 season will feature seminars by Franziska Aigner, J.-P. Caron, Manuel Correa, Ed Keller & Carla Leitão, Anna Longo, Cecile Malaspina, Michael Marder, Jason Mohaghegh, Rômulo Moraes, Ross McElwain & Jay Springett, Reza Negarestani and Mercedes Vicente. For more information on our offerings, please visit our seminars page.

Please think about joining The New Centre if you’d like to support and participate as a non-student. Currently, membership is only 100 USD for two years (rather than 300 USD) and 75 USD for a year (instead of 150). For a one-time donation of 750 USD or divided over twelve payments of 65 USD, individuals can join The New Centre as a Friend and benefit from lifetime membership advantages. Members have access to our archive, which contains 800+ hours of lectures by thought leaders from around the world. They can review all currently scheduled and future seminars, obtain a Google account with unlimited cloud storage, pay for consultations at a lower rate, and advertise their events on our mailing list and social media pages.

When the Venice Biennale opened in April, our Parallel Academia Group conducted Hyper Annotations 2.0, a live public event that featured interviews between our researchers Atefeh Ahmadi and Agata Szymanek and the city’s present artists, curators, and art professionals. These discussions centered on how the post-pandemic environment affected the creation of contemporary art. Our guests included: Ingo ArendAli CherriDr. Yilmaz DziewiorRamin and Rokni Haerizadeh and Hesam RahmanianAssaf KimmelVali MahloujiMałgorzata Mirga-Tas and Joanna WarszaZineb Sedira, and Reid Shier.

Finally, we’d like to recognize the accomplishments of a few of our researchers and students: Ygor Anário for being accepted to the Hochschule für Künste Bremen’s MA program; José Antonio Magalhes for beginning his postdoctoral research in legal theory at PUC Rio; Cássia Siqueira for being accepted to the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro’s PhD in philosophy program; and Joel Blanco for being named one of Forbes Magazine’s list of the 40 most significant futurologists currently working in Spain.
