Open call 2022 for Hodder Fellowships at Princeton University Lewis Center for the Arts

Application deadline: September 13, 2022

Fellowship support is accessible to artists worldwide and across all mediums. The current application period will remain open until September 13, 2022.

Artists and writers with remarkable promise will be awarded the Hodder Fellowship to work on independent projects at Princeton University for the academic year. Composers, choreographers, performance artists, visual artists, authors, translators, or other types of artists or humanists who possess “much more than ordinary intellectual and literary skills” are potential Hodder Fellows; they are chosen more for their potential than for their past work. Given the caliber of the candidate pool, the majority of successful Fellows have written their first book or achieved something similar in their respective disciplines; the Hodder is intended to give Fellows the “studious leisure” to start significant new projects.

While Hodder Fellows are at Princeton for an academic year, there is no official teaching involved. The compensation for this ten-month visiting fellow appointment is 88,000 USD. Fellowships are not meant to support research leading to a higher degree. To apply, one need not be a citizen of the US.

Please include a curriculum vitae, a project proposal of 500 words, and samples of your work to apply (i.e., writing sample, images of your work, video links to performances, etc.).

Please apply for the Hodder Fellowship online by September 13, 2022 at 11:59pm ET here. Interested applicants may apply for the Hodder Fellowship in each new application cycle.
