Candidates from anywhere in the world who write in Chinese or English about any contemporary art exhibition staged anywhere in the globe or online between January 1 and August 31 of 2022 are now eligible to apply for the eighth edition of the International Awards for Art Criticism (IAAC 8) 2022. Candidates will be asked to submit a 1,500-word or 2,500 Chinese characters critique on any contemporary art display. Apply here.
A monetary award in the sum of 10,000 euros, or its equivalent in RMB, will be given as the first prize (currently, around 80,000 RMB). Each of the three second winners will receive 3,500 euros in cash, or its equivalent in RMB (currently, around 30,000 RMB). International Award winners have the option of receiving their payout in either Euro or RMB at the official exchange rate in effect on the day of the payment, albeit the level of the Awards is fixed at a fixed sum in Euro.
Away from the immediate demands of the market, media, and private patronage, the organizing committee of the International Awards for Art Criticism seeks to foster independent critical coverage of contemporary art. The purpose of the Awards is to encourage excellent writing, critical thinking, conversation, and research in China, the UK, and other countries.
Both the stringent anonymity of the judging process and the acknowledged professionalism of the Chinese and English-speaking jury members support the selection process’ neutrality.
