Getxophoto International Image Festival

June 2 – 26, 2022

Getxophoto has moved its dates after 15 years of being hosted in September, and the new edition will be held from June 2nd to June 26th. The Festival, under the direction of curator Jon Uriarte and with the title To Imagine, investigates the importance of critical imagination in considering alternative scenarios in times of crisis, as well as the possibilities that images provide for this purpose.

This year’s curriculum will be articulated by 22 projects. Artists from all disciplines and backgrounds will be in charge of exploring various aspects of this year’s theme from varied perspectives.

The Swiss creative pair Jojakim Cortis and Adrian Sonderegger are among the artists who will present Icons, a project that asks us to examine the truth of photography, especially in light of the current social debate regarding image authenticity. In their studio, the artists recreate classic photos and re-photograph the scene, this time including the materials and instruments utilized. Some of the iconic pictures that are part of the collective psyche and are recreated by these artists include Robert Capa’s fallen soldier in the Spanish Civil War, the advent of man on the moon, and the burning World Trade Center.
