Guided By Echoes 2022 Computer Arts MFA thesis exhibition at the School of Visual Arts

May 26–June 13, 2022

Opening reception: May 26, 6–8pm

School of Visual Arts (SVA) presents Guided by Echoes, an exhibition of interactive installations, video projections, and animations by 40 MFA Computer Arts students. Curated by Kelsie Hoffman, (MFA Computer Arts 2020) and Angelica Vergel, director of operations for the department, the exhibition will be on view from Thursday May 26, through Monday, June 13, at the SVA Chelsea Gallery, 601 West 26th Street, 15th floor, New York City. The opening reception will take place on Thursday, May 26 from 6–8pm. Click here to RSVP.

Guided by Echoes channels the signal forces of possibility and newness. The artists in this exhibition question the in-between spaces whether they are the continuum of sound, the reflections of computational images, or memories that resides and changes over time. It is here that creation is possible and its intensity moves us.

Highlights from the exhibition:
Juan David Figueroa’s
Still, life encourages visitors to mediate using touch to explore the affects of transmission between the organic and computer vision in an interactive video installation. Shveta Sharma’s Synesthesia explores how music and animated visuals can stimulate the body in ways equivalent to psychedelic-induced trips through a “rave-rollercoaster” installation. Claudia Tay’s SemiConductor is a music-making experience in which viewers are invited to initiate a generative process sequencing notes through hand gestures.

The SVA Chelsea Gallery is open Monday through Friday, from 9am to 5pm, and closed on Saturdays and Sundays. The public may visit by showing proof of full vaccination (including booster, if eligible) and photo ID. Proper masking is required. It is fully accessible by wheelchair.
