Phileas is a philanthropic organization based in Vienna that seeks to strengthen the presence of Austrian and Austria-based artists on the international landscape through active and long-term programmes of exchange.

We co-produce new artworks and their presentation in museum exhibitions and Biennials, and where possible acquire the works for public collections.

The period for applications for funding collaborations in 2023 is now open, with a deadline for submissions on September 12, 2022. The guidelines for application are as follows:

–applications can only be submitted by non-commercial arts institutions located outside Austria
–applications must be complete at the time of submission, with confirmed dates and detailed budgets
–applications must be submitted in digital form in English
–projects must wholly or partly take place within 2023, and present the work of one or more Austrian or Austria-based artists.

Applicants will be informed of a decision by November 2022. Please visit our website for the application form.

Phileas was founded in Vienna in 2014, and is supported by the contributions of private individuals, the Austrian Federal Ministry of Arts, Culture, Civil Service and Sport, and the City of Vienna.

Phileas runs an active Visitor Programme, inviting international curators, art critics and museum groups to Austria throughout the year to visit artists’ studios, galleries, museums and foundations.

Phileas produces an annual series of artist monographs and supports publication projects of its international collaboration partners.

Phileas recently opened an exhibition space in the heart of Vienna, providing a window into its international activities and a meeting place for talks, screenings, performances and other public events.
